Krewe du Vieux is always bawdy and irreverent. This year was certainly no exception. One float made fun of Michael Brown's absence during the Katrina aftermath showing an empty chair with an "Out To Dinner" sign hanging on it. Another float mocked the Comatose Corps of Engineers. King cake season is only one of the many reasons it's nigh impossible to start a diet in New Orleans on New Years Day. Lots o' people just wait until Ash Wednesday to start a serious weight loss plan because of the temptation of king cake combined with the excesses of Mardi Gras partying.

I am so happy to see the plans are continuing for Mardi Gras 2006! It may be smaller this year but the people who come back to the New Orleans area will be ready for the celebration.

I am at work today. There's not much going on because everyone is ready to go home and get partying. Tomorrow is the big day, Mardi Gras. Tonight, we are going to the Orpheus parade. Mardi Gras parades that are exclusively female have a reputation for being stingy, skimpy, chintzy and cheap with the throws. The goal when you are a rider is to toss every single item off the float that you brought on at the beginning of the parade. The ladies' parades tend to take a different view. I should do some housecleaning today but I just don't feel like it. It's gray and blah outside so I don't feel like doing any yard work either.
